Turn Up the Music!
There truly is nothing like music! It can soothe the soul, calm the spirit, and bring you to the throne room of Jesus. I recently started reading the book "David" by Charles Swindoll. While reading, I was reminded how the Spirit of the Lord was removed from King Saul and an evil spirit came and began to torment him. The servants observed Saul being tormented by the evil spirit, so they sent for David. They requested that he come and play his harp for Saul. When David came and began to play his harp, Saul experienced relief from the torment of the evil spirit and it would leave him. What does that tell you about the power of music!
Have you ever found a song that you could listen to over a thousand times because the lyrics are so on cue in your life for that moment? That is how I feel with "There Was Jesus" by Zach Williams and Dolly Parton. I just can't get enough of that song right now. When they get to the chorus I am belting it out like a lost sheep in high grass! :)
In the waiting, in the searching
In the healing and the hurting
Like a blessing buried in the broken pieces
Every minute, every moment
Where I've been and where I'm going
Even when I didn't know it or couldn't see it
There was Jesus
That chorus strikes cords in my heart every time. It reminds me and reassures me that Jesus has been and is there, and that he will continue to be there for me, no matter the journey. That journey can be hard or easy, bitter or sweet, sorrowful or joyful. But whatever the journey Jesus is and always will be there. In Deuteronomy 31:8 it says "The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged." What a promise that is for you and I to hold on to. In times of grief or difficulties it can be hard to see that Jesus is there. But when I look back over the last nine months I see His fingerprints all over everything! He has been and is still there. My dear friend, if you are traveling a very difficult journey, don't despair, don't give up! Trust that God is there. When you start to come out on the other side, you will be able to look back and see that He WAS there. So, find a song that gives your soul relief and turn up the music!
